What is online learning?

We can learn in all sorts of ways, from reading about something to having an instructor show us how something is done. Online learning is another effective way to give you skills and knowledge in many topics. Courses are delivered over the Internet and –
just like classroom courses – can include video clips, photographs and diagrams, printable PDFs, quizzes and suggested reading.

Is online learning right for me?

If you are the type of person who gets on with things, or the type that can happily learn alone, online learning could be a great option for you. You won’t know until you give it a go – you could gain a whole lot of new skills and knowledge.

Can anyone take these courses?

Yes. All you need is the desire to learn new things and gain new skills. It doesn’t matter who you are or where in the world you are, you can take a ServiceIQ online course.

Will I learn something useful from the courses?

Yes. ServiceIQ is the government-mandated industry training organisation for 11 service sector industries. The online courses offered are to the same standard and cover some of the same material as qualifications taught offline, so you can learn useful skills and gain new knowledge. The difference is that these online courses are based on parts of training programmes. Think of them as a taste of what it’s like to study towards a qualification.

What sort of courses are online?

There are a variety of courses applicable to the ServiceIQ industry sectors and many can have relevance in other industries too. We’re adding courses all the time, so the best advice is to sign up for a free, no obligation account and have a browse. It will also pay to come back often to see what’s new.

Can I download a course and do it offline?

No. Many elements of the courses are interactive so have to be done online. Some have downloadable reference materials though, mostly as PDFs, and you can also print what’s on your screen.

Do I have to do the entire course in one sitting?

No. The course will ‘remember’ where you got up to so you don’t need to worry if you’re interrupted, something urgent comes up,
or lose your Internet connection. You can go back to the course and pick up where you left off whenever you want. The only restrictions is that you must do a quiz/test in one sitting and each course must be completed by a certain date, usually six months after you started it. The completion period is stated on each course when you have purchased it.

When and where can I do them?

That’s entirely up to you. Since they’re online you do a course where and when you want. We recommend though that you find a place where you can concentrate and have enough time to get some decent study done since most people learn better that way.

Do I get a Certificate if I pass the course?

Yes. When you successfully complete the course, you will get a Certificate of Completion.

What computer do I need?

ServiceIQ online courses are web-based so can be done on most devices, including computers, tablets and smartphones and on any operating system, including Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Do I need special software?

No. If your computer, tablet or smartphone can browse the web it should be fine for taking our courses. As with any web experience though, a good Internet connection and screen that’s not too small makes for better viewing and will let you concentrate on learning.
